Ex Libris, 2022

Pinhole Photography Series

A series of images with a pinhole camera where the exposure time is the time it takes me to read a book or a story. The image captures me reading the story, and in a way captures the story itself.

The way the image is made means the space helps guide which stories are read. I measure the Exposure Value of a spot in the room, and then calculate how long the shutter would be open for and determine which story would average that length of time. This symbiotic relationship between space, light and time gives the project more clarity and more questions to ask.

Inspired by Ann Hamilton's library pinhole images where she uses the mouth as the 'eye' (her mouth becoming the pinhole camera) within a library setting I wanted to look deeper into that idea of time and stories specifically, rather than just the act of reading/mundanity.
